Home waters victory for Italy at 2021 Hempel Mixed Two Person Offshore World Championship
Italian team Claudia Rossi & Pietro D'Alì have been crowned winners of the 2021 Hempel Mixed Two Person Offshore World Championship after a hard-fought final leg to Venice.

When the final leg started at lunchtime on Friday, Rossi and D'Ali were slow out of the starting blocks of the 100-mile overnight race from Marina di Ravenna, but the Italian duo kicked their Figaro 3 keelboat, ITA1 Team ENIT, into gear and took the lead by the halfway stage.

The rising sun was struggling to break through the Venetian morning mist, but emerging from the gloom in the lead was ITA1 Team ENIT, crossing the line first and taking the championship title. Four minutes later Team ESP from Spain crossed in second place, followed by Team Belgium who took third place by just four seconds from winners of the previous leg, ITA2 Marina Militare.

The final approach to Venice involved navigating around a myriad of restricted zones due to oil platforms and other sea furniture, and some teams brought protests against others to seek clarification on whether others had contravened the restrictions. There was not yet a clear winner.

After a few hours of intense but friendly deliberation with the international jury, several teams received penalty points for navigational errors. For Rossi and D'Ali the champagne remained on ice until protests had been concluded. Eventually, however, the Italians were able to pop the cork, a release of emotion as they were finally able to celebrate becoming the first ever World Champions of Mixed Two Person Offshore competition.

Melges 20 European Championship
Puntaldia, Italy: Back to back: Brontolo is crowned once again Melges 20 European Champion. After the success obtained in Malcesine in 2019, the crew led by Filippo Pacinotti defended the title in the waters of Puntaldia, at the end of a week that challenged the participants with extremely variable conditions, from the evanescent breeze to the 20 knots of South-Easterly wind.

Brontolo's victory was anything but obvious: Pacinotti started the last day of racing, with three races scheduled, 3 points behind Dario Levi's Fremito d'Arja, who had until then maintained the control over the ranking. On a day of strong wind and steep waves, Brontolo managed to recover important points in each race.

With daily results of 2-3-1, and a fourth place discarded as the worst result of the whole series, Brontolo defended the continental title leaving behind the Russian crew of Russian Bogatyrs by Igor Rytov, also protagonists of a good recovery on the last day. Fremito d'Arja, after an excellent week of racing, won the bronze medal.

The sailors will return to the water as early as next week, from 1st to 3rd October, for the grand finale of the Melges 14 season, which in Santa Marinella will be hosted by Planet Sail Bracciano and Guglielmo Marconi Nautical Club.

Final top five
1. Brontolo - Filippo Pacinotti, ITA, 14.0
2. Russian Bogatyrs - Igor Rytov, RUS, 18.0
3. Fremito D'arja - Dario Levi, ITA, 24.0
4. Hubex - Kiril Frolov, RUS, 24.0
5. RAYA - Matteo Marenghi Vaselli , MON, 30.0

All in a day's work - Reckmann
Reckmann Every time Reckmann supplies a new superyacht sailing system they surprise us by going one step further. With the Judel/Vrolijk 146-footer Path and 196-foot Sarissa II from McKeon they are doing it again...

The demand for giant sloop rigs continues apace in the superyacht sector and the need for reliable, failsafe sail furling systems becomes ever more crucial. Reckmann remains the go-to supplier for headsail, code sail and mainsail reefing hardware, thanks to its rock-solid reputation and the steady stream of incremental refinements that stem from the Hamburg-based company's long-term strategy of continuous R&D. Two of its latest projects - both high-performance superyachts, but with completely different design values and sailing programmes - demonstrate the versatility of the Reckmann product range.

Path is a remarkably spacious 146ft (44.5m) cutter-rigged sloop with a Panamax carbon rig and integrated sailing system from Rondal. Designed by Judel/Vrolijk specifically for fast-paced round-theworld voyaging and built in foam-cored carbon composites by Baltic Yachts, it's the third-largest yacht by volume that Baltic has built to date.

Diaz/Brotons Win Snipe Western Hemisphere & Orient Championship

Snipe Augie Diaz and Barbie Brotons (USA) were able to sail conservatively to ensure their win at the 2021 Snipe Western Hemisphere & Orient Championship. Going into the final day, they had a 10 point lead over Arthur Blodgett and Gracie Howie (USA) who did their best to close the point gap by winning the final race.

Diaz/Brotons were second row when the gun when off in the 6-8 knot easterly wind, but their speed and course management found them rounding in the top 5. Americans Blodgett/Howie and Taylor Scheuermann/Charlie Bess, were 1-2 at the weather mark and extended their lead through the 5 leg windward-leeward course to finish in that order. Ernesto Rodriguez/Kathleen Tocke (USA) turned on their speed and continued to push the leaders, passing Diaz/Brotons just at the finish line on a port/starboard cross.

Matias Seguel with wife Constanza representing Chile, sailed consistently enough to move onto the podium in third overall.

The division wins were: Diaz/Brotons as top Master team, Taylor Scheuermann/Charlie Bess as top female team and Miranda Paz with Joaquin Balarezo (Peru) as the top junior team.

Final Results:
1. Augie Diaz/Barbara Brotons (USA) 29
2. Arthur Blodgett/Gracie Howie (USA) 36
3. Matias Seguel/Constanza Seguel (CHI) 48
4. Ernesto Rodriguez/Kathleen Tocke (USA) 49

Les Voiles de Saint-Tropez

Saint-Tropez In accordance with its marvellous reputation for elegance, festivity and sport, the 23rd edition of Les Voiles de Saint-Tropez opened Saturday.

Now spanning a full two weeks, aficionados of sleek hulls and beautiful sails, Modern and Classic yachts, will get the chance to feast their eyes on the unique scene that epitomises marine splendour. Indeed, for the first week, from 25 September, Les Voiles is playing host to the classic yachts as well as the fleet of modern boats measuring up to 20 metres in length. The second week, from Sunday 3 October through until Saturday 9, will be solely devoted to the very large modern craft known as the Maxis, which will also benefit from the extra week of racing. Two weeks of showstopping, festive fun to stretch out the summer once again in Saint Tropez.

From Saturday 25 September to Saturday 2 October, over 200 classic sailing yachts of all sizes, some in excess of 40 metres, will come together with the modern boats measuring up to 18m28 in length. Then from Sunday 3 through until Saturday 9 October, the port of Saint Tropez will be reserved exclusively for a fleet of around 50 modern giants for the second chapter of the event: Les Voiles Maxi Yachts. The main attraction of this new format for the general public is the opportunity to witness all these splendours making headway under sail from the wonderful vantage point of the Etienne d'Orves jetty, where they will have a front row seat to marvel at the intensity of all the race starts from nearby Le Portalet.

Sunday's Autumn Cup run by the Yacht Club de France
The Yacht Club de France's Autumn Cup is a famous race connecting Cannes and Saint Tropez and it will provide a delicious taste of what's to come at Les Voiles. Heralding the start of festivities in Saint Tropez, every year, dozens of yachts set sail from Cannes and its 'Régates Royales' bound for the major festival of sailing in Saint Tropez. Making their grand entrance under full sail at the far end of the bay and the Tour du Portalet by way of a conclusion to the 21-mile race, it is always a magical moment of high drama, especially so in the easterly wind forecast for tomorrow.

Monday: a wonderful introduction to proceedings
Over 130 modern yachts, split into 5 groups duly listed in IRC Classes B, C, D, E and F, will join the fray on Monday. Enlightened amateurs or professionals with backgrounds embracing Olympic sailing, offshore racing or the America's Cup, there is something to delight one and all in the sumptuous setting of the bay, particularly now that all the categories will have the opportunity to start out from the port of Saint Tropez itself.

The International Masters Regatta is back
After a year without one of San Diego Yacht Club's most cherished and anticipated regattas, the San Diego Yacht Club is excited to welcome twelve legendary Master skippers to vie for victory at the 2021 International Masters Regatta. The event to be held from Thursday, October 21 - Saturday, October 23 will feature three days of competition on San Diego Bay from some very well-known names in sailing. Skippers will be joining us in Southern California from all over the globe: New York, New Zealand, Toronto, Washington, and California.

This year's skipper's roster includes: Bill Campbell (2017 Winner), Tad Lacey, Donald Jesberg, Carl Buchan, Bill Menninger (2016 Winner), Scott Harris, Andy Roy (2019 Winner), Rod Davis, Alan Field, Craig Healy, Phil Lotz and David Gould.

Defending champion from the last running of the event in 2019 is skipper Andy Roy. The team in red brought their fierce competition south with them two years ago and showed the US teams quite the fight (with a smile and camaraderie, of course...they are Canadian)!

Carl Buchan, a 2021 National Sailing Hall of Fame inductee, is new to skippering the event, but has crewed for his father in two Masters Regattas in previous years and is not short of experience. Buchan has earned many World Championship, National Championship and North American Championship titles while also having crewed for Jonathan McKee in the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics winning the Gold Medal in the Flying Dutchman Class.

Warren Jones Supported Events In 2022
Back again for the second year running, the Warren Jones Foundation is once again supporting the WA Tour & Development Program. The WA Tour will see a series of three-match racing events, targeted to youth sailors, sailed over January and February in Western Australia. The WA Tour is structured as a short series with aggregated scoring, overall prize money and handicaps to encourage fierce competition, dedication, hard work and skill development for local youth sailors during this second, irregular Perth summer. Additional information and applications will open in late October 2021. More Info >> www.swanriversailing.com/wa-tour

Featuring in the 3-event series in 2022, will be Royal Freshwater Bay Yacht Club's JESS Match Cup followed by the Colin Mullins Youth Regatta, hosted by Royal Perth Yacht Club and wrapping up with the Perth Youth Cup, supported by the Warren Jones Foundation, hosted by Royal Freshwater Bay Yacht Club. Results from these events will be aggregated with overall prize money awarded upon the conclusion of the final event on Friday, 11th February 2022 at the Royal Freshwater Bay Yacht Club.

Although the hope and plan are to run the Warren Jones International Youth Regatta in 2022, the realistic outcome will be to run a state and/or national regatta in its' place again this year. The Warren Jones Foundation have thrown their full support behind the project again in 2022, as well and supporting the resurgence of the ever-popular Warren Jones Gala Luncheon, to be held on the final day of racing of the Perth Youth Cup on Friday, 11th February 2022.

Realteam Sailing Wins In Scarlino And The First TF35 Championship
With ominous black clouds rolling over Scarlino, Italy, the morning of the final day racing looked borderline from the start, with a forecast wind starting at 18-knots and building to guests of 25-knots by lunchtime.

After the morning briefing, Principal Race Officer Benoit Deutsch set out on the water to see the conditions for himself and, an hour later, with the wind and sea state increasing, racing was officially called off for the day.

With an impressive eight-point lead Esteban Garcia's Realteam Sailing, co-skippered by Jérôme Clerc has dominated in Scarlino this week. Taking six wins out of nine races, their discarded fifth from day one the only blemish on a scoreline of first and seconds, "I'm very proud of my team, " Clerc explained.

With the win in Italy, Realteam Sailing also claims the overall TF35 Trophy title in the first year of racing for the new cutting-edge hydro-foiling catamarans, with an equally impressive scoreline having won four events of a possible six this season.

The TF35 teams will now return to Switzerland for their winter development
