Staniul / Sztorch narrowly win 49er Euros in first for Poland
Mikolaj Staniul with Kuba Sztorch (POL) won a tit for tat battle with Tim Fischer with Fabian Graf that played out over two 49er gold races on the final day in Thessaloniki.

The two leading teams were separated by only two points heading into the day.

For Staniul and Sztroch they've now set a milestone for Poland in 49er skiff after years of being incredibly close to capturing the European Championship. Both of their Polish team mates, Lukasz with Pawel and Buksak with Wiersbicki have come very close to winning the Euros, but have come up short teach time. In this win, the younger Pols score a milestone for their program, but also beat their training partners for the first time ever at a Championship. It is certainly an event to lay down their intentions toward Paris inclusion.

In second place are Fischer with Graf, who had not raced in over a whole years since they lost out on Tokyo inclusion at the last European Championship. The years of practice clearly showed as they built up through the week and had an incredible run toward the tile.

Poland also secures the Bronze medal through Lukasz with Pawel, who lead for the early parts of the regatta but faultered in the closing days.

Multihull Showdown for 2022 RORC Transatlantic Race
A multihull showdown is expected with three 70ft (21m) multihulls already confirmed for the RORC Transatlantic Race starting on January 8th, 2022 .

Entry is still open for the 2022 RORC Transatlantic Race, starting from Puerto Calero, Lanzarote, Canary Islands on Saturday January 8th, 2022. In association with the International Maxi Association (IMA) and the Yacht Club de France, over 20 teams are expected to race the 3,000 mile course across the Atlantic Ocean to Camper & Nicholsons Port Louis Marina, Grenada.

The race will feature three 70ft (21m) trimarans, with the strong possibility of Antoine Rabaste's 80 ft (24m) Ultim'Emotion 2 also in action. The multihull record for the RORC Transatlantic Race was set in 2015 by Lloyd Thornburg's MOD70 Phaedo 3. Skippered by Britain's Brian Thompson, Phaedo 3 completed the race in 5 days 22 hrs 46 mins 03 secs.

For the 2022 RORC Transatlantic Race, Brian Thompson will be racing on Jason Carroll's MOD70 Argo (USA). This will be Brian's third RORC Transatlantic Race and having won with Phaedo 3 in 2016 - he has always been on the winning team.

Giovanni Soldini's Maserati Multi70 (ITA) is a fully-flying foiling set up, capable of lifting all three hulls out of the water. Maserati first competed in the RORC Transatlantic Race in 2016, coming second to Phaedo 3. In 2018, after a thrilling race with Peter Cunningham's PowerPlay, Maserati crossed the finish line in Grenada just 45 minutes ahead, after over 6 days of high-velocity racing.

Peter Cunningham's PowerPlay was second over the line to Maserati in the 2018 edition, but was the MOCRA winner after time correction. PowerPlay has been based in Europe for the last two years but will be returning to the Caribbean with the aim of also competing in the 2022 RORC Caribbean 600.

The smallest yacht entered to date is the 2019 overall winner, Richard Palmer's JPK 1010 Jangada, which will be racing Two-Handed with Jeremy Waitt. The highest rated boats under IRC are two Volvo 70s; Lance Shepherd's Telefonica Black and HYPR, skippered by Jens Lindner. Other high performance racing boats entered include the IRC 56 Black Pearl (unfinished business from last year's race), sailed by Stefan Jentzsch, along with Maximilian Klink's Botin 52 Caro and David Collins' Botin IRC 52 Tala.

Outrider no more - Drheam Cup
Drheam Cup It took no time at all for the spectacular Drheam Cup - a multi-course event for the world's very fastest yachts - to make a quick upshift from new event to biennial ocean racing classic... and for good reason

The Drheam-Cup was founded in 2016 and has quickly become a key fixture in French sailing, so much so that the official name has now been changed to the "Drheam-Cup Grand Prix de France de Course au Large". The race runs in every "even" year, whenever there is not a Rolex Fastnet Race, providing a convenient alternative for those seeking more races of this length in this part of the world.

The race starts in Cherbourg-en- Cotentin and finishes in La Trinitésur- Mer. The Ultimes will race 1500 miles, the Imocas, Ocean 50s and Class 40s will race 1000 miles, and the short course for Figaro 3s, smaller multi-hulls and IRC yachts has been extended from 428 miles in previous editions to 600 miles from 2022 onwards based on competitor demand.

Snipes Return to Boston
The Snipes are returning to Boston to compete for the title of the Western Hemisphere & Orient Championship. With the hiatus from the pandemic, the event was moved to 2021 and has 27 entries - a small but strong group representing 6 nations including Brazil, Chile, Peru, Guatemala, Mexico and the US.

Reigning WH&O champions Ernesto Rodriguez and crew Kathleen Tocke (USA) should be strong contenders, coming off two back-to-back major victories in the Snipe Europeans in Split, Croatia and the most recent North American Championship in Beverly, Massachusetts just last week. Rodriguez is no stranger to the Winthrop race course, having won the 2014 North Americans sailed at this venue at Cottage Park YC. Also in attendance is multi-Snipe world champion Augie Diaz (USA) with Barbie Brotons (ARG) as his crew.

Racing begins on Tuesday through Saturday with 9 races scheduled. The forecast looks good through the week with great racing planned.

The Vendee Arctic - Les Sables d'Olonne 2022 Offers a Demanding 3,500 mile course
The SAEM Vendee, the organisers of the Vendee Globe, will also organize the "Vendee Arctic - Les Sables-d'Olonne" which will be the first qualifying stage for the Vendee Globe 2024.

The "Arctic Vendee Les Sables-d'Olonne" will leave from Port Olona on June 12, 2022.

The race was first run in July 2020 by the IMOCA Class. The first "Vendee Arctic - Les Sables d'Olonne offered the IMOCA racers a good final test of reliability which proved useful for the fleet before the Vendee Globe. Although because of the health situation the race had to take place 'behind closed doors' this race which took skippers to the tough weather systems in northerly latitudes, won over the hearts and minds of the Vendee Globe sailors as well as proving a rigorous competitive challenge.

In agreement with the IMOCA Class and with the support of Vendee Department and the city of Les Sables d'Olonne, the SAEM Vendee, the organizing company of the Vendee Globe, has taken over the organization of this race. It will start from port Olona on June 12, 2022 and it will be the first qualifying stage for the Vendee Globe 2024.

The skippers will leave from the famous Vendee Globe pontoon, pass out the legendary Channel and take the Start off Les Sables d'Olonne. They will set off in the direction of the Arctic Circle, pass Iceland, before returning to Les Sables d'Olonne. In total it is a 3,500 nautical miles race that represents an extreme adventure on a course that is both innovative and demanding.

The event will begin on Friday June 10, 2022 and launched with a parade by the Vendee Globe skippers scheduled for September 25.

Live Q&A Call with Josh Junior & Andy Maloney
In more than 60 years of the Finn Gold Cup, New Zealand had never won this most prized of world championships. Then... two in a row! First Josh Junior in 2019 and (following the Covid gap) Andy Maloney in 2021.

By working together, sharing everything in a relentless drive for excellence. All the while knowing that whoever won the selection battle would represent New Zealand at the Tokyo Games, while the other would have to watch from the sidelines.

Italia Sailing Team announces entry in The Ocean Race 2022-23
During a press conference organised by the Yacht Club Italiano on Sunday evening, the Italian Minister of Tourism, Massimo Garavaglia, gave his full support for an Italian entry in the next edition of The Ocean Race, scheduled to start in late 2022.

Minister Garavaglia spoke from the Yacht Club Italiano and confirmed government support for the Italia Sailing Team, alongside Giovanni Toti, the President of Liguria Region, as well as Marco Bucci, the Mayor of Genova, which is the host city of the Grand Finale of The Ocean Race in the summer of 2023.

Gerolamo Bianchi and Nicoló Caffarena, the President and the General Secretary of the Yacht Club Italiano, confirmed the Italia Sailing Team will be racing with support of the YCI, adding yet another chapter to the strong heritage of their esteemed Club, the oldest yacht club in Italy and third oldest in the world.

The YCI and the Italia Sailing Team have been working hard behind the scenes for two years to secure the necessary assets for a proper Italian entry in The Ocean Race. Today's press conference was the announcement of a well kept secret.

"We are honoured to welcome Italia Sailing Team to The Ocean Race family and we look forward to cooperating with Riccardo Simoneschi and the YCI board and management. I raced in The Ocean Race 89/90 under the Italian flag for the YCI, so tonight is also a special moment for me."

The Italia Sailing Team will be led by team CEO Riccardo Simoneschi and compete in the IMOCA class. A full presentation of the team is to come.
