Great Britain SailGP Team breaks F50 speed record on Ben Ainslie's return in Denmark
Great Britain SailGP Team CEO and driver Sir Ben Ainslie returned to the wheel of the British F50 today as the team began training ahead of the ROCKWOOL Denmark Sail Grand Prix in Aarhus (August 20-21).

It was an eventful return to action for Ainslie, who had missed the previous two SailGP events to welcome the arrival of his baby son Fox, as he and the British crew broke the SailGP speed record with a top speed of 98.3 km/h (61.1mph/53.1 knots) in strong breeze on the Aarhus waters.

The Great Britain SailGP Team has been joined in Aarhus by Hannah Diamond - the final athlete trialling as part of the league's Women's Pathway Program - before a final decision will be made on which of the female athlete trialists will be joining the team full time. With the previous trialists including the likes of recent Olympic medalists Hannah Mills and Anna Burnet, it will be a tough decision to make for Ben Ainslie and the team.

The ROCKWOOL Denmark Sail Grand Prix is live on Sky Sports from 2PM BST on Friday August 20 and from 12PM BST on Saturday August 21, and is also free to view on SailGP's YouTube channel. For full viewing details visit sailgp.com/watch

The RWYC 'Original Lonely Rock' race entry opens on Sunday 15th August 2021
With the Notice of Race being released on Wednesday 4th August, we have pleasure in announcing the second edition of the RWYC 'Original Lonely Rock Race' (OLR2022) in association with the Royal Victoria Yacht Club. The first start of the OLR2022 will be 1400hrs on Sunday 17th July 2022.

Following the original 'Fastnet' course which starts in the area of Ryde Bank, within the gaze of the Royal Victoria Yacht Club. The fleet then exits the Western Solent, on to the Fastnet Rock which they will round to port. Then, passing the Isles of Scilly to port ,the fleet will once again enjoy an historical finish experience at the Plymouth Breakwater Light house.

Royal Western Yacht Club Commodore, Chris Arscott said; "Once again, we are delighted to be running this 608-mile race on the world's most famous offshore racecourse of all. We are equally as delighted to continue our association with the Royal Victoria Yacht Club. We see this as a real feature of the race, their help and support with the start takes us back almost 100 years and adds a dimension to the race which would not be the same without them ".

Held during some of the most challenging times of COVID, the OLR2020 race was the only UK and one of the very few overnight offshore races in the world to actually take place in the entire season. Many would not happen due to the social aspect of the racing not being possible, but it was with great credit to the race committee's determination and the crew's commitment to put the race ahead of the social's that the race did go ahead. Next year will see a very different landscape to this.

The race village will be within MDL's QAB Marina, which is on the city side of Plymouth Sound and with easy access to hotels, restaurants and the infamous nightlife. Returning to this location will mean a short walk to the very best the City of Plymouth has to offer long with added visibility for sponsors and spectators alike. The return to a great atmosphere for all coupled with easy logistics for the teams.

One-Design Regatta Serves as Crucial Stepping Stone for Fall Championships
Newport RI USA: If your favorite one-design class's late summer regatta isn't a continental-level championship, then it's likely there's one sparkling on the horizon. That's certainly the case with the two biggest classes at the fourth edition of the New York Yacht Club One-Design Regatta, which will take place this coming weekend, August 21 and 22, out of the New York Yacht Club Harbour Court in Newport, R.I.

The 2021 edition of the One-Design Regatta is one of the final opportunities for Northeastern VX One sailors to hone their skills before the class gathers at Oklahoma City's Lake Hefner in late September for its North American Championship. Likewise, the IC37 class is staring at two major regattas in Newport in the next 6 weeks, the Rolex New York Yacht Club Invitational Cup in mid-September and the class's inaugural North American Championship in early October.

The net result is a strong turnout for both classes, with no fewer than 14 VX Ones expected and the IC37 class pulling in 19 boats. The Etchells class is also competing in the event.t.

The VX One is Newport's newest one-design class. While the town is full of passionate sailors, it's no easy feat gaining traction in the shadow of the Shields and J/24 classes that have ruled the local one-design sailing scene for decades.

Among the 19 IC37 crews lining up this weekend are five teams preparing for the Rolex New York Yacht Club Invitational Cup, sailing's premiere Corinthian big-boat regatta. The biennial event will be sailed September 11 to 18 with 20 teams representing some of the top yacht clubs around the world.

Southern Yacht Club won the Invitational Cup in 2017, the last year it was sailed in Swan 42s, and finished fifth in 2019, the first year the regatta was sailed in the IC37.

The New York Yacht Club Regatta Association is pleased to announce that Cadre, a next-generation commercial real estate investing platform, will be a regatta sponsor for the One-Design Regatta. Cadre's support of the event will include hosting the Saturday evening competitor barbecue, a weather seminar on Friday night and weather briefings on Saturday and Sunday mornings. Cadre will join season-long RA partners Safe Harbor Marinas, Hammetts Hotel and Helly Hansen as official sponsors of the One-Design Regatta. -- Stuart Streuli, Director of Communications

Dragon Gold Cup
At the Dragon Gold Cup 2021 by Yanmar in Marstrand the long wait for racing finally came to an end as day four of the regatta brought perfect sailing conditions, allowing the Race Committee to run the opening two races of the six race series. Determined to catch up the schedule if at all possible the competitors were under starters orders at 09:00 sharp. The wind was initially westerly, backing to southwesterly and building from 8 to 20 knots as the day wore on. Racing throughout the fleet was intense with constant place changes and some incredibly close finishes.

The winner of the opening Gold Cup race is presented with the prestigious Borge Borresen Trophy, named after one of the greatest sailors and boat builders in the class's long history. Borresen won his first Gold Cup in 1967, his last in 1985 and participated in an amazing 51 Gold Cups in total. This year's recipient is Dutchman Pieter Heerema, sailing NED412 Troika with Lars Hendriksen and George Leonchuk. Second in the opening race was reigning Gold Cup Champion Pedro Andrade sailing POR89 Petti Portugal with João Vidinha and Luis Queiroz, while reigning Dragon World Champion Andy Beadsworth in TUR1212 Provezza Dragon crewed by James Hund and Arda Baykal took third.

With a minimum four races being required to validate the championship the Race Committee has announced that Thursday's schedule will also be revised to allow two races with a first possible warning signal at 10:00. The forecast for the final two days of the regatta is for much lighter winds of 7 to 14 knots from the southwest. The Dragon Gold Cup 2021 by Yanmar continues until Friday 20 August with a maximum of six races scheduled.

Rolex Fastnet - The winners and their stories
While the big guns in the 2021 Rolex Fastnet fleet were impressive, it was the smaller boats that took the big trophies when it came to corrected time. And within these ranks there were some impressive performances and great stories. Here's how the 2021 Rolex Fastnet Race played out for those that won some of the key trophies. -- Matthew Sheahan

Lady Min Sails Again, Re-born in West Cork

Lady Min The 30ft gaff-rigged Lady Min - designed and built for his own use by Maurice O'Keeffe of Schull in 1902 - was re-launched for his descendant Simon O'Keeffe at the weekend by restorer Tiernan Roe of Ballydehob, and a flotilla of four traditional and classic craft associated with West Cork were there to greet her on Sunday when she took her first sail in a squally northerly. The "welcoming committee" included Nigel Towse's sailing oyster boat Hanorah from Heir Island and Cormac Levis's Saoirse Muirrean from Ballydehob, plus two Baltimore boats, Ivan Wolfe's Rose of Baltimore and Brian Marten's cruising cutter Guillemot.

While Lady Min was originally gaff-rigged, her hull in many ways was very modern in type, and at 119 years old it needed some very skilled craftsmanship to bring it back to full seagoing order.

This has been successfully achieved, and the abiding memory of Sunday's first outing is not only of how beautifully she sailed, but also how remarkably fast. -- RM Nixon in Afloat

52 Super Series Returns To Action in Puerto Portals Mallorca
The 52 SUPER SERIES returns to competition next week a bumper fleet of 16 TP52s will race on the popular Bay of Palma, Mallorca.

Nine top level 52 SUPER SERIES teams finally return to the white heat of battle. There has been no circuit regatta since March 2020 in Cape Town. And seven invited TP52s of various generations will face off in a competitive fleet spanning much of the proud 20 year history of the global box rule class.

After the long lay off for the 52 SUPER SERIES it will almost certainly be the team which finds its marks quickest that does best. Indeed the first few races might prove crucial. The difference between winning and a finish at the back of the fleet is usually down to the fractions of a metre gained and lost round the course.

Seven teams have answered the call to race and celebrate the TP52s history in the Med. Perhaps the most successful global campaigners of recent years is Karl Kwok's Beau Geste crew led by Gavin Brady but Italy's Marco Serafini's XIO were 2019 ORC World Champions triumphing in Sibenik ahead of Roberto Monti's Air Is Blue. Newcomers are the Thailand flagged former Team Vision Future. And from Saint Tropez, France is Gerard Logel's well sailed Arobas, a team just as easy competing offshore in the Rolex Giraglia as inshore in the Copa del Rey. The fleet is a fascinating mix of pros, semi-pros and amateur racers all looking to enjoy a good week of racing and some have already indicated they would like to dip a toe in the 52 SUPER SERIES waters in the future.

All of the action will be streamed live from the Bay of Palma on 52 SUPER SERIES TV on the Thursday, Friday and Saturday with expert comment and commentary.
