Tokoloshe II and PowerPlay triumph in Race the Wight
A race around the Isle of Wight on Saturday 1st August marked the return to competitive racing at the Royal Ocean Racing Club, the first since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. 133 boats took part with Mike Bartholomew’s Tokoloshe II taking the double win for Monohull Line Honours and the race overall after IRC Time Correction. Multihull Line Honours went to PowerPlay, helmed by Peter Cunningham.

Class Winners included; Giovanni Belgrano’s Whooper which was also second overall; Ross Applebey’s Scarlet Oyster, Jim Driver’s Chilli Pepper and Richard Palmer’s Jangada. However, the real race winners were the NHS and the Scaramouche Sailing Trust, with over £5000 (all entry fees) going to the noble causes.

Mike Bartholomew’s GP42 Tokoloshe II was the overall winner of the race and topped the podium for IRC One ahead of two other FAST40+ yachts. RORC Vice Commodore James Neville racing INO XXX and Ed Fishwick’s Redshift, were second and third in class.

MOD70 PowerPlay, skippered by Ned Collier Wakefield, with Peter Cunningham on the tiller also did the double. Taking Monohull Line Honours and the win after MOCRA time correction. James Holder’s Dazcat Slinky Malinki was second and Al Wood’s Dragonfly was third in the MOCRA Class.

The Voiles de Saint-Tropez: Competitors being confirmed, reception procedure on shore specified
For the 250 or so competitors who have pre-registered for the Voiles, the validation of their participation is crucial. It is an obligatory step to confirm their inscription on the coveted list of participants for this event which is, as usual, overly subscribed and by waiting list only. This is especially important this year as all regatta starts, for the classic boats as for the moderns, will be given in front of Saint-Tropez. This early confirmation of participation also increases the chances of having pride of place in the port of Saint-Tropez.

There will be a whole new spectacle for the participants and public alike with the new format, over two weeks, separating the fleet according to boat size making it possible to get a closer look at boats never before welcomed inside the port during the event. Previously, of the 300 boats that usually take part in the event, only around half were able to have a place in Saint-Tropez. The rest of the fleet, for safety reasons in the event of strong weather, have been obliged to take a berth in neighbouring ports around the Gulf.

Provisional Programme 2020:

Week 1: The Voiles de Saint-Tropez
Saturday 26th and Sunday 27th September: registration for boats up to (approx.) 20 meters (except for certain classes)
Monday 28th September: racing for modern yachts
Tuesday 29th, Wednesday 30th September, Friday 2nd, Saturday 3rd October: racing for modern yachts and classic yachts
Thursday 1st October: Challenge Day
Saturday 3rd October: prize giving (week 1)

Week 2: The Voiles Super Boats
Sunday 4th and Monday 5th October: big boat registration (Wally, IRCA, Maxi yachts, Grands Traditions, big Schooners)
Tuesday 6th, Wednesday 7th, Thursday 8th, Friday 9th: class racing
Friday 9th October: prize giving (week 2)

PULITA - SEMPLICE - VELOCE - Maxi Dolphin
Karma... the fruit of the latest cooperation between luxury and performance yacht builders Maxi Dolphin and Wicklow-based designer Mark Mills really is just that

This design for a light, wide, and powerful performance cruiser with a large sailplan and a lifting keel prepared for established performance builders Maxi Dolphin shows how far modern raceboat design and construction can influence the next generation of high performance mile-eaters. Headed by Luca Botter, the company has a lot of experience with this type of build, is located near the project manager, client, and interior designer Nauta in Milan, and understands the client’s vision: ‘pulita, semplice, veloce’ - clean, simple, fast. Moreover, they saw the opportunity for Karma to pave the way for further semi-custom builds of the MD75 design.

With the green light to proceed, work started immediately to outline the geometry with the boatyard’s technical office led by Giovanni Pizzatti

How To Use Flares in an Emergency. Take Heed...
You cannot fire flares without permission from both the US Coast Guard and local authorities (check regulations in your area if outside of the US). But, you can train your crew before you cast off for cruising. Hold mock simulated drills out in the cockpit. Follow these five steps:

1. Face Downwind
2. Follow the Instructions
3. Wear Eye Protection
4. Aim with Care
5. Look Away Before You Fire

LBYC is seeking Expressions of Interest for the 2021 Seawanhaka International Challenge Cup
The Long Beach Yacht Club is excited to announce its intent to host the Seawanhaka International Challenge Cup, June 2nd - 5th, in the waters off Long Beach, California.

The Seawanhaka Cup is an historic international challenge for the purpose of promoting small yacht racing and developing the Corinthian spirit among competing yachtsmen. It is considered to be the oldest yachting trophy originated in the United States that is still in active competition. The first challenge was sailed in Oyster Bay, New York in 1895. The Seawanhaka Cup is a match racing event open to international teams who are all regular members of the yacht club they are representing and a national of the country where the club resides.

The Long Beach Yacht Club won the 47th challenge for the Seawanhaka Cup in 2019, sailed in Match 40s in Oyster Bay. Remarkably, among all of the competing yacht clubs, the finals came down to Long Beach Yacht Club and the host, Seawanhaka Corinthian Yacht Club. The LBYC team consisted of Scotty Dickson and fellow teammates John Busch, Ben Wheatley, Daniel Gorman, and Trent Turigliatto.

More details will be forthcoming when the Notice of Race is posted. This is not a solicitation for challenges at this time, but your club’s expression of interest is welcome and encouraged.

Fowey Week to Go Ahead with Revised Programme of Racing
Fowey Royal Regatta will take place this year from Saturday 15th - Saturday 22nd August in a revised ‘Mini Regatta’ format.

Racing for cruiser classes will take place over three days from Thursday 20th to Saturday 22nd August with racing for dinghies on Thursday 20th and Friday 21st August.

Earlier in the week, Fowey’s local one design classes, the Fowey Rivers and Troys, will each race in their own championships which in normal years are usually held over weekends in May and June respectively. The Fowey River fleet will also use the event to celebrate their 70th anniversary.

The Port of Fowey Race Organising Committee (POFROC) decided on the revised format due to the cancellation of shoreside events by the Fowey Royal Regatta Committee and the current COVID-19 restrictions which have prevented the usual passages races to and from Falmouth.

For further details about the cruiser and dinghy racing for this year’s Fowey Week, please contact the POFROC team by email or visit pofroc.org.uk

Bob Roscioli
Bob Roscioli It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of the legendary Robert "Bob" Roscioli. Mr. Roscioli has been an icon of the marine industry and is globally respected for personal attention to details and outstanding service to the yachting industry at Roscioli Yachting Center.

Bob built his business and made his mark as a pioneer in the South Florida marine industry when he started a business from nothing, using his master paint brushing skills and gained a reputation as a perfectionist. He then launched what is now a world renowned, state of the art, full service shipyard. In the late 1980's, he started Roscioli Donzi Yachts, building custom sportfishing yachts which was a passion of his.

Bob's mantra "Today's the Day" is the way he started every day at the yard. He could be seen walking the shipyard every morning, preparing for the day ahead. A true friend to first responders and veterans, Bob was an advocate of providing jobs and teaching those who have served or needed a chance. A true legacy to the marine industry.

Mr. Roscioli leaves behind Sharon, his loving wife of 51 years, his son Robert (Traci), his daughter, Heather (Brian), and three granddaughters, Grace, Hannah and Rachel. Bob will be deeply missed by his employees, innumerable colleagues in the yachting industry, many of whom he mentored, and the yacht owners who have depended on him for his loyal service.
